Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg has announced a change in the parent company’s name to “Meta” to represent a future beyond just its troubled social network.

A lot of people(mostly Nigerians) don’t really understand the concept and the reason behind this.

Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp will keep their names under the rebranding Meta, nothing changes.

The thing is that Mark started with Facebook as an app then later built Instagram, bought WhatsApp and other platforms, all under the name Facebook.

That actually is not befitting since what they do as an organisation goes beyond just Facebook. So Meta is the general name for the parent company while individual products like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp etc will maintain their identity under meta company.

It’s just like Microsodt having Windows, Azure, Ms-Office, etc.
