City reached the semi-final stage of the FA Cup last season, having won it the year before, and are looking for similar success this year. In their way was Aitor Karanka’s Birmingham side, but City named a strong side and were ruthless in the first half, scoring three times.
Pep Guardiola named Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Kyle Walker and Gabriel Jesus in his team, and it was Bernardo who opened the scoring with a brilliant half volley.
Bernardo made it two shortly after to cap off a wonderful team move, and Phil Foden scored on the half hour mark to put City in complete control. That allowed Guardiola to make a number of substitutions and rest his key players as City were safely into the hat for the next round.
