A resident of Gbagada, Farida Ladipo-Ajayi, took to her social media handles to report the inhuman hiking of price of hand sanitisers by Medmark Pharmacy of Soluyi. Imagine a store selling 500ml of hand sanitisers for N19,950 because of Covid-19.

In what was a very swift reaction, the head of Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Council, Mr. Tunde Irukera, paid an unannounced visit to the store to validate Farida’s claim. In his words, “Spot check on Medmark chemist Gbagada, high price, useful enforcement discoveries… Investigation shows price from N395 to N4500 in 1 day! One down, so much more to go”.

The FCCPC, through a press release yesterday, had warned against price gouging and arbitrary increasingly in hygiene products on account of Covid-19.
Let other stores ready to fleece people be warned.
