Arsenal appeared relieved that their Premier League ‘Invincibles’ season will not be matched by Liverpool following the Reds’ defeat to Watford .

Jurgen Klopp’s side slumped to their first loss of the campaign when two goals from Ismaila Sarr and one from Troy Deeney stunned the away side and gave the Hornets a deserved victory at Vicarage Road.




Arsenal went unbeaten in the 2003-2004 season after recording 26 wins, 12 draws and no losses, but there was a lot of talk ahead of Saturday’s game that Liverpool could match that extraordinary campaign.

Following full-time at Vicarage Road, however, the official Arsenal Twitter account sent a message that simply read “Phew…”

They followed that up with a tweet to Liverpool which said: “Congratulations on a formidable unbeaten run, @LFC.”

In English football Preston North End are the only other team to have gone unbeaten in a season when they did not lose in the 1888-89 campaign.



In the modern era, however, Arsenal will remain the only side to do so, and Liverpool finally lost after remaining unbeaten in their last 44 Premier League games.

They also missed the chance to record the longest winning run in the English top flight, as a win would have taken them to 19 victories in a row, one ahead of the 18 Manchester City recorded in the 2017-2018 season.
