Today we will be revealing the captaincy position of every football club, it’s understandable that a weak team is mostly capped by a sluggish captain vice versa.
We have reviewed some football clubs captains from many years till this moment and we will be given you the Best 7 Captains we’ve shortlisted across the world.
1. Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)
Steven Gerrard also called Mr Liverpool during his days with the club. He was named Liverpool’s captain in 2003, at just age 23. In the 2004–05 season he led Liverpool to the club’s first Champions League title in 21 years, scoring a key goal in Liverpool’s dramatic three-goal comeback against AC Milan in the final.
He was not just loved because of his passionate style of play but also for his strong leadership spirit on and off the pitch. He remains the most loved Liverpool player till date.
2. John Terry (Chelsea)
The former England captain was regarded as one of the greatest central defenders and captain of his generation.
He eventually became most successful captain. He led the team to five Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, one UEFA Europa League and one UEFA Champions League title. He is the first captain to lead a team to 5 Premier League titles.
3. Carles Puyol (Barcelona)
He was known as a one-club man because he spent all his career with Barcelona. He played 593 competitive matches for the club and won 18 major titles, notably 6 La Liga trophies and 3 Champions League titles.
Puyol was chosen as captain in 2004, his first season as skipper ended with Barca claiming the Liga title. The next year they won both La Liga and the Champions League. After Guardiola replaced Frank Rijkaard as coach, Puyol lifted all six trophies available in the calendar year 2009: La Liga, Copa del Rey, Spanish Supercopa, Champions League, European Super Cup and World Club Cup.
4. Vincent Kompany (Man City)
The man known as gladiator for his team in his days as captain because his readiness to die for his team. He lifted 4 Premier League titles, 4 League Cups and now a FA Cup.
Kompany has been described as one of the best defenders in world football, and his leadership spirit makes him one of the best captains ever.
5. Phillip Lahm (Bayern Munich)
Also known as the magic dwarf and one of the most intelligent players ever. He played both left back and right back and even a defensive midfielder during his days and he won numerous individual awards.
Philipp Lahm was chosen captain for Bayern Munich in 2012 and under him they won the treble (Bundesliga, DFB Pokal & UEFA Champions League) in 2013. Winning a total 21 trophies with the German.
6. Paolo Maldini (Ac Milan)
He was regarded as one of the longest serving players and captain who played till age 41.
He was well known for Maldini was renowned for his technical ability, athleticism, sliding tackles and stamina with composure. He has won 25 trophies with Milan.
7. Javier Zanetti (Inter Milan)
Zanetti earned the nickname El Tractor for his stamina and tireless energetic runs up and down the wings to aid both attack and defence.
He was known among his teammates for consistency and fitness regime, which he has credited with prolonging his career.
He is the most capped player in the history of Inter with 858 games and won 16 trophies with the club.
