It seems that the result is already a foregone conclusion.

Last week, Spanish paper Mundo Deportivo claimed that the winner of 2016 Ballon d’Or is Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

2016 has been a remarkable year for the Los Blancos star.

He scored the winning penalty in the 2016 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid, while he helped lead Portugal to their first major trophy at Euro 2016.

As for his main rival, Leo Messi, he won La Liga with FC Barcelona, while he lost the Copa America final to Chile.

On Monday morning, a leaked copy of the upcoming France Football magazine revealing the winner of the 2016 Ballon d’Or has been published on social media.

The splash confirms that Ronaldo has won the award for a fourth time.

Messi, meanwhile, has won the award five times.

Also on the front page is a quote from Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, which says “I finished behind two monsters”.

That makes it plain that with Ronaldo has won the top prize, Messi is second and Griezmann is third.
